This workshop is appropriate for all elementary-age students, from Kindergarten through the upper grades. It is flexible in its content to be as sophisticated or simple as you like.
The first day, we paint papers similar to those that I use in my children’s book illustrations. Students experiment with blotting, spattering, and using different tools in the paint to make textures.

The second day, when the papers are dry, we use them to illustrate a story or concept. We can use a folktale, a story the children have been working with, or build on a classroom theme or lesson -- whatever is most strategic in helping students make learning connections.
